Reflecting on a Year Since "Homicide in the Hood"

Updated: Mar 10

It is hard to believe it's coming up on one year since Homicide in the Hood was released! There has been a flurry of activity surrounding one case from the book in particular: Holly Palmer's case.

The Search for Justice

About a year and a half ago, I contacted the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office. I advised them that they needed to find Holly's fingernail clippings. These clippings had been "mysteriously" lost for thirty-five years. One of Holly's sisters, Dolly, also reached out to the DA's office about this issue. I had warned them that if they didn't find the clippings, I would contact WFAA Channel 8 news.

A few weeks later, Holly's fingernail clippings were found and sent to the DPS lab for testing! This was a significant breakthrough in the case.

Ongoing Developments

Since that time, several developments have occurred that cannot be discussed publicly. However, Dolly has been proactive. She contacted the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and anyone else she could think of.

Dolly is confident. After speaking to the Texas Ranger assigned to her sister's case, she believes there will be justice for Holly.

The Importance of Persistence

Dolly's determination highlights the importance of persistence in seeking justice. It is crucial for families of victims to keep pushing for answers. Often, cases can go cold, and it takes someone willing to advocate for the truth to reignite interest.

Community Support

Community support plays a vital role in these situations. When people come together, they can create pressure on authorities to act. This was evident in Holly's case, where public interest helped bring attention to the lost evidence.

The Role of Media

The media also plays a significant role in these cases. By reporting on unsolved crimes, they can keep the public informed and engaged. This can lead to new tips and information that may help solve cases.

In Holly's situation, the involvement of WFAA Channel 8 news was crucial. Their coverage helped shine a light on the case and the need for justice.

Conclusion

As we reflect on the past year since the release of Homicide in the Hood, it is clear that the fight for justice is ongoing. Dolly's efforts remind us that we must remain vigilant and persistent. The search for truth is never over, and every small victory counts.

We hope that Holly's case will soon see the justice it deserves. The journey may be long, but with continued support and determination, there is hope for resolution.
